Talking 'Chihuahua' kicks movie star butt
Movies about the Middle East and terrorism don't do well at the box office. That's no secret. But the star power of Leonardo DiCaprio and Russell Crowe was supposed to make Body of Lies different.
At least some prognosticators thought so.
"The movie looks to open big this week," Anne Thompson wrote on her Variety blog. She was relying on the "informed" guestimate of Fantasy Moguls, which predicted the explosive spy pic would open at No. 1 and earn $17.5 million on this, it's opening weekend.
Wrong.
That's how much Disney's Beverly Hills Chihuahua earned. The children's flick retained the top spot for a second week. Body of Lies, which was adapted by Ridley Scott from a David Ignatius bestseller, earned only $13.1 million.
